Financial independence provides the ability to do the things you want, when you want. One of the benefits of financial independence is retirement or knowing that you can retire, which is almost as good.
Our role is to help you with the thought process related to your retirement planning and, working together, to implement those thoughts so that when you retire, you can stay retired.
Life is much like a book in the that it is a series of chapters. Some are longer than others and some are more important than others, but all are required to tell the story.
Retirement is part of the book of life. if isn’t the end of the book; it’s just the start of a new chapter. The best part of about this next chapter is that it is perfect. It is perfect because the pages are blank. You get to write them yourself, and if you like, we can help you with these pages just as we have helped hundreds of others do this before.
Your Choices
Investments can be generic products and the cost of purchase from the most qualified and the least qualified sources is exactly the same. Over ten years ago we did a study on the availability of mutual funds just within Harris County. We only counted “bricks and mortar” businesses and we found 587 locations where you could purchase mutual funds. Think of the number there must be today! However the advice about fund selection and the ongoing management of the asset is far from generic. These functions are totally dependent on the source.
Choose Advisors, Not Products
Some believe selecting an advisor is a difficult analytical process. We don’t! Six simple concepts should help you do this. Your advisor should be bright, honest, willing and able to listen, know what they are doing, be value-added and someone that you like.
BRIGHT PEOPLE are easy to spot. Once you find one you will know it.
HONESTY AND ETHICS. If recent corporate events have taught us anything, they have shown us what can happen without these attributes. We have one simple concept that we live by. Some day our clients will know everything about this business that we already know. And, when that day comes, there had better not be any surprises!
LISTENING is an art. If the person can’t or won’t listen, how will they ever understand what you are trying to accomplish? The plans produced for you should reflect that your advisor did listen, the first time!
KNOWING WHAT TO DO and how to do it is not the same as being bright. The old saying “those that can, do; those that can’t consult” has some real relevance here. At Miller-Green, we know what to do and How to do it.
COST EFFECTIVE is not the same as cheap. We don’t think of our services as cheap. We don’t think our services are cheap. We think of what we do as value-added. Value-added services should pay for themselves over time. We can tell you what our services cost, and we can tell you what your existing or proposed services will cost. We think you should know!
DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON? Can you really listen, learn and profit from those you don’t like? Not many of us can. So if all things are positive, but you don’t like the person, keep looking. This is especially important for couples. Consider the surviving spouse, left to deal with someone they don’t like and having to potentially find a new advisor alone. This is not a pretty picture and a situation easily avoided.

We believe that relevant experience is what matters. We have a wealth of experience that bears directly to the matter at hand – your retirement. Our work is unique and tailored to the individual and our 27+ years of experience is just that, not six months experience repeated over 50 times.
